It’s the start of a new season. But it won’t be like any previous one. Please read the message below carefully.

Stay Home Stay Safe- Kielder Ospreys March 2020.

In support of the national effort to combat Covid-19, Forestry England and Northumbrian Water took the unprecedented decision to close all recreational facilities at Kielder Water & Forest Park on Monday 23rd March. It is imperative that government rules and advice are heeded, and people should NOT visit Kielder Water & Forest Park for exercise or to view wildlife or any other inessential reason.

Forestry England’s key message supporting NHS is;
Help stop the spread of coronavirus.
Stay home, stay safe – please do not come to our forests.

For ospreys, it is just another season. And first back to Kielder Forest – as far as we know – was Nest 1A’s White YA.

He was bearing a gift for a female, but he’s obviously tucked in well himself!

He stayed on the nest for almost a couple of hours before flying off. He’s probably visited one or two of the other nests, but it is not possible to access locally recorded footage, nor to remotely transfer video clips. For the moment, let’s rejoice in his safe return with a few more stills. Apologies for reduced quality of remote transfer images.

YA returned after an hour, and was still on the nest last check.

      I’m sure you understand, Cirrus, but there have been plenty of cases of people who don’t. Enjoy your garden and all the osprey news!

    What great news.
    Amidst all the human carnage, what a blessing to be able to celebrate the birds, both native and migratory.
    Here’s hoping for a great Osprey season everywhere and a safe environment for all.
    Just wondering, Joanna, whether the camera on Nest 2 (EB and 37) is functional this year?
    Kindest regards, Sal

    • joannadailey says:

      The Nest 2 camera was replaced, but there were some teething problems and now access to try and rectify won’t be possible for a while, given the need to stay at home.

    Lovely to have the ospreys back at kielder. Gutted I won’t be able to go over and see them till later in the year. Hope they all have a successful breading season.??
