Nest 3: young ospreys now

Over the last ten days or so, the threesome’s feathers have developed to the point the youngsters look like ospreys, not downy chicks.

The 3 hours a day of nestcam footage hasn’t revealed much exercising yet. Chicks 1 and 3 have been seen beating their wings the most often, but that isn’t saying much! Here is chick 3. Press HD for best quality on all clips.

Five ospreys on one nest can get a bit cramped. Chick 3 caught the male a glancing blow during one exercise session.

Although chick 3 is still a little smaller than the others, it looks healthy and definitely eats its share at meal times. Well done the parents, in their first ‘3 chick’ year.
