Nest 4 update

Today is another relentlessly wet one at Kielder. Yesterday, when the chicks could have had many feeds during the day, 69 didn’t replenish the nest until nearly 19.00.

Whenever Mrs 69 stood up the chicks begged for food.

Just before 19.00 69 arrived with a meal.

Mrs 69 ate for a few minutes before offering a morsel to the chicks. Chick 3 received the first piece.

During that feed, only the 3rd seen on camera, chicks 1 and 2 wasted 2 minutes squabbling. But they still received most of the pieces on offer.

This morning, before the rain got heavier, the chicks were fed. Chick 3 received the first morsel, and had a few more.

A few minutes ago 69 brought a new catch to the nest. Mrs 69 didn’t stop brooding, so 69 ate beside her and then fed her.

It could be another long wait before a meal for the three chicks. It is marvellous to see a stronger chick 3, but these are still tough times for all the young chicks.

Good news Joanna ……. thank you …… I hope the little ones continue to thrive – Chick 3 is certainly a little toughie!
