Nest 4 hatch!

At 14.26 chick 1 on Nest 4 managed to escape from the shell. Then the rain came, so views have been limited. And obscuring sticks don’t help!

The chick didn’t eat. Mrs 69 rightly decided brooding was more important in the rain.

A fish lay beside Mrs 69 as she incubated this morning so a hatch had seemed imminent from early on. But it wasn’t until 13.47 that we could see the top half of the shell starting to separate.

At 14.02 the head was briefly visible when 69 arrived to check on progress. Press HD for best quality.

A little later and the chick still hadn’t escaped.

We haven’t been able to see much of the chick but the rain should clear later.

There’s still no sign of a hatch for egg 3 on Nest 2.
