A good start in life

Chick 1 on Nest 2 has been having a fine day in the largely sunny and warm weather. A cooling breeze, especially high on the fells, will have helped a tiny chick who can’t control body temperature well at this stage. EB has brooded solidly – in between feeds.

37 brought a sizeable trout to the nest at lunchtime.

Like all new hatchlings chick 1 had difficulty keeping its head still to take that morsel on offer, but coped in the end.

That was the first of many small meals throughout the afternoon.

Many ‘samey’ images, but a joy to see.

Thanks, JD. Fingers crossed for the little one. I hope for more of the ‘sameness’ pictured in your blog of a sunny and uneventful summer for all of Kielder’s nests!
