Nest 4 second egg right on schedule

The incubating pair on Nest 4 had tucked their egg below the lip of the cup when streaming started today. 69 was incubating but Mrs 69 took over before 11.00. It wasn’t until around 12.55 that a second egg could be confirmed. We’ll try and establish a time of laying but for now here are a couple of images.

Not sure if I am lagging in news. I make that 9 now plus any that may be in Nest 3. Correct me if I have not been keeping up with the latest news. Great that all the nests are now settling into egg incubation.

do the eyelids on the osprey start to cover the eyes starting from the lower part of the eye moving upwards. We noticed this on one of the webcams. Many thanks Joanna.

Hi Peter, and well noticed! Yes, usually the lower eyelid rises up to cover the whole eye even though Ospreys have two eyelids. There is also a transparent ‘eyelid’, the nictitating membrane, which moves across the eye. Sometimes on screengrabs if an eye looks rather glazed it is because the membrane is covering the eye at the moment the snapshot was taken.

Big smile from me. Thanks for the update Joanna
