Happy times at Kielder

Watching the first egg being laid at Nest 1A today was so special. YA thought so too. He stayed on the nest as Mrs YA incubated.

On the other two streamed nests it was business as usual. The Nest 2 pair 37 and EB don’t have quite the comfortable relationship that 37 enjoyed with the unringed female, Mrs 37.
But they share fish happily enough. Today he brought in a whole trout for her.

On Nest 4, streamed for the first time this year, we have the first opportunity to see the ospreys’ activity in detail. Here is a video of highlights yesterday.

It is interesting, the females always have a job to get hold of the fish, it must be difficult to let it go when normally your every instinct is to hold onto the fish for your own survival.

Will be interesting to see how many offspring each nest rears this season …..
