It is 102 days since Y6 hatched yet she doesn’t show any signs of migrating. 37 continues to bring her fish – usually nutritious rainbow trout. Yesterday she could have had a meal before streaming began but 37 didn’t arrive with fresh supplies until soon after 15.00. Y6 was on and off the nest – or more accurately the pole – until then. She preened frequently.
She didn’t solicit for food very often but when she saw 37 coming she let rip with her calls!
This video shows Y6 impatiently awaiting 37’s landing, no audio though. Press HD for best quality. Apologies for some freezing.
Mostly Y6 eats off the nest.
Until yesterday Y6 had received at least 2 and often 3 fish during nestcam streaming hours. Was 37 encouraging her to migrate by reducing his deliveries?
Today he brought two fish in a two hour spell, so the answer seems to be ‘no’! In this video Y6 tells anyone who cares to listen that she isn’t sharing her fish and has a check of the area before departing with it.
In early days Y6 was often ignored during feeding by EB and when a bit older was prevented from joining her elder siblings by Y5. She was markedly smaller than them although was a healthy weight when she was ringed. Now she is quite a stunner. No bias here!
