Nest 3 Ringing

The Nest 3 chicks were ringed early evening on Monday. As on Nest 2 in the morning only the adult female was around initially.

The male arrived part way through. He was carrying supper for the family.

We heard something crashing through the nearby trees and looking up saw he had dropped his catch! Last year he held onto a fish throughout ringing.

The chicks were assessed as healthy and finally we have a male this year.

He weighed 1430g and a blue Darvic ring with white letters VN was put on his right tarsus.

You can see he still has the remains of his egg tooth. Another photo of the sole male!

The female chick weighed 1680g. She has ring Blue VW on her right leg.

The chicks were returned to the nest and the female flew low over checking them as the team walked out of the area.

It is a great privilege and always a thrill to attend the ringings, so personal thanks to Forestry Commission England.
