Sad news about Chick 3 on Nest 2

During a feed after 17.00 on Sunday when Chick 3 was visible much of the time it did not move at all. Nevertheless Mrs 37 brooded it after the other chicks had eaten.

That was the last time the tiny chick was seen. In 2012 the adults removed a dead chick quite quickly as mostly happens.

So sad, but it was very weak. By hatching it contributed to knowledge as for three eggs to hatch that had been trampled over several minutes demonstrates their resilience.

Sorry Joanna. Let’s hope the other 2 now thrive to fledging. Both parents on Nest 1 and Nest 2 had a lot to handle weatherwise and their tenacity and dedication to chick rearing in such conditions never ceases to amaze me. Sally

So sad for us all to hear this……

Very sad, at least it didn’t live for too long before we lost it. If it had been egg 3 it would have had a better chance as the other two would have not been so much bigger. It was obviously not to be once egg 3 had been broken in the scuffle.

Just so sad, poor thing would have had a struggle to survive anyway being so small, obviously it just wasn’t meant to be.

  5. Thanks for keeping us informed. I had guessed as much.
