Great news, a third chick for Nest 2!

It had looked a bit bleak for the only possibly viable egg on Nest 2, which was probably the fourth to be laid, as yesterday morning it was unhatched at 37 days since laying. This is longer than usual for the last egg.

When Mrs 37 went for a comfort break at 09.19 the egg (the paler one) could be seen to be cracked right round the top.

At 09.51 the chick was partly out of the shell.

37 landed with a fish at 10.50 and when Mrs 37 went to take it the chick was very nearly out of the shell. A minute later it was.

For most of the day a view of it was hard because the much larger siblings tended to be covering it. But soon after 17.00 it pushed between them and was rewarded with a morsel.

Today it is very chilly with a strong wind and rain. Mrs 37 has been very low on her brood, but late morning the chick was looking healthy when 37 brought a fish to the nest.
