Two more hatches, one on Nest 1 and one on Nest 2

When the nestcam streaming started this morning an egg shell was visible beside Mrs 37 on Nest 2. So there must be a chick! But it wasn’t until 09.48 that she stood and we got our first view.

The chick looked relatively strong so could have hatched last night. Although there was no sign of a crack at 18.00 Mrs 37 was turning the eggs every four or five minutes.

At 10.22 37 came down to stand guard when Mrs 37 went for a comfort break. The chick begged and 37 went and stood over it, although he had no fish to offer.

Over on Nest 1 when Mrs YA stood up at 09.24 a second chick was visible. It also looked quite strong and could have hatched last night. It is the one in front in this clip.

Chick 1 looks like being a bully already, although food is plentiful.

It is a huge relief to see a chick on Nest 2 after the problems caused by an aggressive intruder.

Joanna – Great to hear this – Was a little concerned as the days ticked away on Nest 2 especially with the disruption ealier in the month. Lets look forward to a full house now.

Great news for both nests. I can well appreciate the concern for the eggs on Nest 2. It is a huge relief to know a chick has safely hatched. I’m really delighted for all at Kielder Ospreys. :)
