Yesterday afternoon Mrs 37 stood by or in the nest cup from soon after 14.00, sometimes dozing. At 15.45 she became more fidgety and backed into the nest cup, fiddling with bark at the side. She was still standing up. At 15.47 she gave a big shrug, but still didn’t crouch. At 15.50 she crouched and pushed; it must be near!
She lowered her rear, shuffled and chipped. She panted and pushed again over the next few minutes. Here is a video of the last few seconds before the egg emerged.
And here is an image of her raising herself from it, the first clear view for people watching live at Kielder Castle Café.
37 came to the nest 4 times in the next hour, complete with fish, but Mrs 37 didn’t show him the egg.
This morning he had several clear views of it, but didn’t incubate.
No second egg yet on Nest 1; it should be today but last year there was well over 100 hours between eggs 1 and 2!
