After the almost certainly accidental grasp of 37’s foot by Blue 9H on Nest 2 yesterday afternoon, a review of late afternoon footage has revealed a deliberate assault on YA by Blue VT, and  later a vicious peck on her sister.

Although the Nest 1 fledglings had eaten from a couple of fish remnants during the day YA did not bring a fresh catch to the nest until early evening.  So when he landed with only a piece of moss at about 16.20 Blue VT was not happy. She grabbed his wing and held on. Tight!

Here is a video of the incident.

A couple of hours later YA landed with a live trout. He kept his wings well out of the way as  Blue VT snatched it. Edit: Looking at the footage again it was Mrs YA who brought the fish and her direction of flight was from nearer the water than the trees near the nest where the adults tend to eat. So perhaps she has started fishing again.

She was a bit uncertain quite how to deal with the flapping fish.

She hadn’t made any progress when Blue VV tried to take it; she got a peck for her cheek, which might have been better aimed at the fish!

Blue VT held onto her prize and ate for some time before ceding it to Blue UV not long before streaming ceased.

Oh dear poor YA, that was quite an intentional attack on him by Blue VT. I was worried about his wing but he flew afterwards so hopefully alright.

Obviously your Glaslyn genes are super-tough, Viv. YA’s flight has looked fine and given the size of fish he caught yesterday, he hasn’t been hampered.
