Sibling squabbles

Although sometimes a couple of hours or so passes without a feed on the nests the fish supply over the last few days has been fresh and plentiful. The chicks don’t need too many mouthfuls before needing a rest. Nevertheless, bouts of sibling rivalry are breaking out.

The first was last night on Nest 2. 37 had delivered a fish; Mrs 37 trod on a chick and brushed the trout over all of the chicks as she took it away to eat the mouth and other parts of the head.

Maybe being bashed annoyed the chick on the left because it launched a fairly vicious attack on the innocent chick to its left.

The victim was OK and the bully missed out on the first morsels, no reward for violence! There is a video of the event here.

Today on Nest 1 both parents were on the nest when another fight broke out, with the bout ended by a sharp word from Mrs YA, although perhaps YA should have stepped in first.

But the chicks are very content most of the time!
