Intruders again!

It may be no coincidence that Loch Garten, Dyfi and Kielder have experienced intruding ospreys at their nest sites today – sub-adult ospreys have started to return from their winter migration homes and they are curious birds!

At Kielder Nest 1 all was calm, with Mrs YA incubating and looking relaxed. Then YA flew down and started shouting, Mrs YA hunkered down and started yelling too. A shape shot past the nest just above YA’s head! Another osprey had taken a very close look at the mess on the nest!

It may not have been one of the young adults mentioned above. Other more mature ospreys have been around this season at Kielder, but since the regular pairs of Kielder ospreys were re-united they haven’t been seen as much. And the close ‘fly by’ perhaps indicates a newcomer. Here are some shots of the incident.
