A calmer day with the ospreys

A fairly sunny day with just a few drops of rain saw very little action on either of the nests during the morning.  Mrs 37 was seen shouting on her nest mid-morning, but 37 did not arrive, nor did a fish.  At 11.15 am there was a succesful mating of YA and Mrs YA on Nest 1, after which Mrs YA flew off, followed by YA.  A crow came in to steal some of the fish morsels while the normal occupants were away, but was seen off by the returning ospreys.  Just before noon, both ospreys were on the nest and spent some time looking fixedly at the camera  – maybe the crow was sitting on the camera pole, but they were not mantling and did not look disturbed.  One and a half fish had been on the nest all morning, and Mrs YA dragged the larger one off and flew off with it.

Very little action was happening on Nest 2 during this time, apart from a brief visit from Mrs 37 early in the afternoon.  YA spent a long time on his camera pole after lunch, occasionally flying round and settling back on one of his favourite perches, overlooking the nest.  He did come down onto the nest again late afternoon, where he arranged a few sticks and deepened the egg cup considerably.
