And over on Nest 1…..

Saturday excitement was greatest at the reunion of 37 and Mrs 37, but there was a bit of interesting action on Nest 1 as well.

Until about 15.00 it was a normal day. Mrs YA Edit: the 26/3 female, not the 2013 female who returned on 8/4  was on the camera pole a lot of the time, YA trying to mate with her there. Oh, and he did actually have a go on the nest too! Very little work on the nest itself although the cup is getting more obvious.

Mrs YA was down on the nest at about 15.00 when in came YA with a live fish. Mrs YA looked extremely interested, but off YA went with it! Poor Mrs YA, only the other day 37 was on HER nest with a fish and he flew off with it when she landed. What is going on? Possibly (only conjecture) YA took the live fish away to eat the head then bring her the rest to show he recognised that bringing live fish to a nest is bad osprey form, because if there are chicks they could get damaged by a thrashing fish. Whatever, he sat in a nearby tree tucking in as Mrs YA yelled at him. This went on some time and it seemed she wasn’t going to get much at all. But then YA landed with still a pretty large meal, only for them both to mantle at a perceived threat. YA took off – with fish! – to tackle it. But he did come back later and give Mrs YA the majority of the trout. And indulged in a bit of scraping to show 37 he may have a competitor. Or perhaps not!
