Miscellaneous bits!

Before the chick on Nest 1 was ringed on Monday it had a pretty busy morning and a video of its activity is here.

The apparent weight of the youngster at ringing is inconsistent with it being a male; so it is now officially de-sexed! After the ringing it played dead in the nest for a while as either one or both parents watched events from nearby trees. It was perking up a bit by the time the cameras went off.

Tuesday was wet early on but by the middle of the day the chick had been feeding and Mrs YA was back to her usual routine of fairly brief visits to the nest itself.

Later on Tuesday the camera feeds were unavailable because Radio Branch were working on getting the Nest 2 streaming issues fixed.

The news from Nest 2 is that the three youngsters fledged between Friday and Monday morning. The Ranger for that area saw all three in branches of the nest tree below the nest on Monday. Hopefully we will be able to get some video of take offs and landings later this week. Whilst it is a shame we couldn’t witness any of the chicks becoming fledglings, it is a trade off one would gladly pay for the successful fledging.

Here are some images of Nest 1 post-ringing. You may need to click and enlarge for the last two images.
