Short Nest 1 update

The chick on Nest 1 has now almost completely lost the pale stripe down its back, but it still blends well with the nest material. Early in the day it was flat out, showing signs of a substantial meal being digested. However before 10.00 YA brought a good sized fish to the nest and the chick rallied. With no Mrs YA in sight and YA departing almost immediately it had a go at feeding itself again. It did get some morsels off, but several times it tried to tear the operculum, a hard flap that protects the gills and is the only indigestible part of fish for an osprey. So no surprise the chick got nowhere!

It had a few totters on its feet but mainly walks on its haunches still.

Mrs YA did spend part of the day on the nest but often the chick was on its own and YA was the only visible parent in the surrounding trees.
