What a difference a week makes

It isn’t even a week since the chick on Nest 1 had the drama of tipping upside down and struggling to right itself. Mrs YA still wasn’t performing her protection role as she should.

She has improved and the chick has certainly grown well. On Wednesday morning it had a lot of food and spent time virtually comatose whilst Mrs YA alternated between nest and tree. When a crow came near the nest she was down by the chick immediately. Well done!  The chick woke up about 13.00 and had a bit of a wing flap, stubby style, a chew at some bits – perhaps fish it had dropped earlier – and went back to sleep.

Here are some images; click on them to better see the feathers starting to appear, and that distinctive black eye stripe is quite marked now. A short video is here.
