No way, jay!

A quiet start on Nest 1 on Friday was disrupted soon after 09.30 when a jay had the nerve to land on the nest edge. YA shot down from a nearby tree and that was that, no aerobatics necessary this time to see off an unwelcome visitor. He settled on the camera pole to deter further intrusion.

Mrs YA seemed to be doing a lot of intermittent feeding during the afternoon. A tiny head is still not visible above the nest edge and it is unclear how many mouths are being filled.  YA was in a tree near the nest watching the action, but he wasn’t seen feeding his offspring.

The Nest 1 chicks (hopefully at least two) will only just be getting their grey second down and are much more vulnerable than the Nest 2 chicks to the impact of prolonged rain and possibly difficult fishing conditions this weekend.
