Nest 2, two chicks doing well!

Despite a lot of problems with the nestcam stream from Nest 2 on Tuesday both chicks and their parents were posing just after 09.00. The second chick probably hatched late on Monday. Mrs 37 was on the chicks and remaining egg most of the morning although coverage was lost for minutes at a time. At just after midday she moved and two comatose looking youngsters were huddled together.

At about 13.35 the male was on the nest eating the remains of a rainbow trout. By 14.15 a fish, possibly the same one, was on the nest with Mrs 37 having a snack Naturally 37 was supervising matters in the rear, and after swinging a stick just past his offspring’s heads their alertness encouraged Mrs 37 to feed them. Maybe that was his intention!

At just before 15.00 Mrs 37 stood up for a stick twiddle. No sign of a hole in egg 3 yet, which had a chick either side of it to incubate it all the better!

The video of the hatch of chick 1 is here. And the first taste of trout is here.

I like the idea that 37 was swinging the stick to get the youngsters heads bobbing, so that Mrs would get on and feed them!!

They look tiny but I’m very glad to see them.
