This weekend is the last for Ospreywatch. The youngster on Nest 1 has been flying for a week now, and none of the family are using the nest much. They are still mainly in the area immediately around the nest though, so if you visit you may see one or more flying, as well as prolonged tree perching, through the telescopes. Despite being about 2 miles distant, when an osprey flies you get a good sense of their size. And this year has been excellent for sightings of ospreys hunting over the water near Leaplish.
So why not visit Leaplish Waterside Park between 10:00 and 17:00 tomorrow or Sunday?
Meanwhile, over on Nest 2 the chicks are basking in sunshine, a rare treat in their short lives. They are getting in some wing flapping too, which can require ducking from the non-flappers on a relatively small nest. They will probably fledge next week. You can watch their antics on the live nestcam streamed to Kielder Castle, which is also open from 10:00 to 17:00
